Settling In and Transitions

Details on how we help your child feel comfortable in our setting

We have a transition programme to help support you and your child during their visits and the first few weeks

Supporting the Transition to Pre-school

At The Meadows Community Pre-school we understand that transitioning into a pre-school environment and having to leave parents can be very difficult for some children, so we have prepared a transition programme to help support you and your child during their visits and the first few weeks here.

Our Transition Visit Programme

All children are offered a series of transition visits which begin with the registration visit. At this visit we will complete all the relevant paperwork whilst your child has the opportunity to explore our welcoming, happy setting, meeting the staff and the other children. This helps them to settle knowing that parents are there if they need to check in with you.

After the registration visit, we will offer a further visit where you will be given the opportunity to have a relaxing cuppa in our staff room whilst your child remains with staff in the play room. This can help to build your child’s confidence whilst ensuring that you are on hand if needed.
Following the second visit, we will arrange further visits to enable you and your child to feel comfortable about starting pre-school on their agreed start date.

Your child will explore our welcoming, happy setting, meeting the staff and other children

Working Together to Help Children Settle

We pride ourselves on working with parents to settle their child into pre-school and, whilst many children settle happily into pre-school, we understand that this can sometimes be traumatic for families. All our staff are very experienced at settling children and are happy to answer calls if children have been upset when parents have left.

Tapestry is also a useful tool during settling in as it gives staff the ability to upload photographs which many parents find reassuring.

We’d be more than happy to show you around our setting. Get in touch to arrange a visit.
